Police arrested a 29-year-old man in Tabase locality at approximately 22:30 on Saturday, 10 January 2026, for illegal firearm possession.
OR Tambo District Task Team members responded to a complaint about a man allegedly discharging a firearm randomly. After locating a suspect matching the description at a local tavern, police searched him and found an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol with an erased serial number and eight rounds of ammunition.
He was charged with unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Investigations into the initial shooting complaint continue.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 January 2026.
