

On Friday, January 9, 2026, at approximately 00:50, Laingsburg police and local Law Enforcement conducted a vehicle checkpoint on Voortrekker Road.
Officers stopped a minibus taxi en route to Beaufort West. During the stop, they witnessed a parcel being thrown from a window. A subsequent search revealed a plastic bag containing drugs.
Police arrested a 20-year-old male passenger on a charge of dealing in drugs. Confiscated substances included a packet of tik and 1,016 Mandrax tablets, with an estimated value of R50,000.
The suspect remains in custody and will appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ Court.
This operation is part of ongoing police activities along provincial entry and exit routes, which will continue through the holiday period and beyond.
