Man Arrested for Friend’s Murder After New Year’s Day Altercation

A 41-year-old Bohlokong man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his friend.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 1 January 2026, at approximately 18:00 in a garage at a residential property. Police allege the suspect and the deceased were drinking with others when an argument broke out over allegations the deceased was having an affair with the suspect’s girlfriend.

During the confrontation, both men reportedly armed themselves with a spade and a spade fork from the garage. The suspect is alleged to have stabbed the deceased in the face with the spade fork before fleeing.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to a fatal stab wound to the face.

The suspect handed himself over to police at about 21:00 on the same day. The alleged weapon has been seized. He is expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 5 January 2026.
