In a targeted operation to ensure a safer festive season, the Mthatha-based OR Tambo Stock Theft Prevention Task Team arrested two male suspects near the Decoligny R61 road on Friday afternoon.
The suspects, aged 51 and 22 and identified as father and son, were taken into custody at approximately 16:10 on 05 December 2025 for possession of 38 suspected stolen sheep.
Police acted swiftly on intelligence indicating that sheep, allegedly stolen from Tabase A/A on Thursday, 04 December 2025 (with a Mthatha CAS number already registered), were being transported to Tabankulu. Authorities located and cornered a Toyota Hilux vehicle towing a trailer suspected of carrying the livestock.
A total of 38 sheep were found loaded on the trailer. During preliminary investigation, the rightful owner was brought to the scene and positively identified the animals as his stolen property.
The duo is scheduled to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 08 December 2025, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen stock. Police confirm that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
