Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend

A 49-year-old man is in police custody following the alleged murder of his 46-year-old girlfriend in the Phomolong area of Hennenman. The suspect was apprehended in Ventersburg after fleeing the scene.

The incident came to light on the morning of Saturday, 29 November 2025. According to police reports, they were summoned to a scene at approximately 06:50.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to a shack where they discovered the motionless body of Mpho Gladys Nkhobo (46) lying on the floor next to a fridge.

Preliminary information indicates that the victim’s 10-year-old son made the grim discovery. The child had gone to check on his mother that morning and, upon entering the shack, found her body with a knife embedded in her chest.

In a state of distress, the young boy removed the knife from his mother’s chest and ran to inform his uncle. The uncle immediately contacted the police.

Emergency services personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.

A search for the alleged suspect was promptly launched, leading investigators to Ventersburg, where the 49-year-old man was traced and subsequently arrested.

The motive for the murder is yet to be determined and will form part of the ongoing police investigation.

The suspect is expected to make his first appearance before the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 December 2025, to face a charge of murder.
