Major Drug Bust in Mitchells Plain as Operation Shanela Nets Suspect and Large Mandrax Haul

 In a targeted operation on Monday, 24 November 2025, law enforcement officials made a significant drug bust, resulting in the arrest of a 45-year-old suspect.

The operation was conducted by members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, operating under the umbrella of #OperationShanela. The raid was part of a concerted effort to address criminal activities in the Mitchells Plain area.

During the operation, a suspect was apprehended after he was found in possession of a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics. The seizure included 242 mandrax tablets and 719 mandrax capsules. Additionally, two sachets of tik (crystal meth) were confiscated.

Police also recovered an amount of R10,970 in cash at the scene. The money is believed to be the proceeds of crime. The suspect is expected to face charges related to drug dealing and possession of the suspected illicit funds.
