Hopetown Court Sentences Man to Ten Years for Stepfather’s Murder

The Pixley Ka Seme District Management has welcomed a ten-year prison sentence handed down by the Hopetown Regional Court on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

Bernard van Heerden (24) was sentenced for the murder of his 47-year-old stepfather. The fatal incident occurred in the Plakkerskamp area of Strydenburg on Saturday, 25 January 2025.

According to the court’s findings, Van Heerden fatally stabbed his stepfather at approximately 23:00. The assault followed an altercation between the two men.

The Strydenburg police were notified of the incident and the investigation was led by Detective Constable Tshidiso Jane. Following the investigation, Van Heerden was found guilty by the Regional Court, leading to this week’s sentencing.
