KZNVIP Emergency Teams responded to a violent cash-in-transit heist outside Midway Mall this afternoon, which left one security officer seriously injured after being shot by armed suspects.
Emergency personnel were dispatched following multiple calls from distressed members of the public. Upon arrival, responders secured the scene and initiated a search for the affected security personnel. One security officer was located near the informal trading area with a gunshot wound. KZNVIP Medics were mobilised and promptly took over medical care.
The injured officer was stabilised at the scene and transported to a medical facility for further treatment. Three other vehicles were damaged during the incident one from the explosion and two other vehicles shot.
Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 10 to 12 suspects, armed with high-calibre weapons, bombed the cash vehicle before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables. The roadway was closed for an extended period while authorities processed the scene.
