Two foreign nationals are in custody following a vicious attack on a 33-year-old woman, which police allege was a premeditated attempt on her life. The arrest comes after a swift investigation triggered by a community alert last week.
The incident came to light on Thursday, 13 November 2025, when police were notified of a woman found fighting for her life near Rooidam, outside Lourierpark. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim with a severe gash on her forehead and an open wound on her chin. She was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
The Parkweg Serious and Violent Crimes unit, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Maphoka Mabofe, initiated a preliminary investigation on Friday, 14 November 2025. Their investigation uncovered a clear motive for the attack. According to police findings, one of the suspects, a shopkeeper, was renting a space from the victim and had recently been served with a notice to vacate her premises, effectively terminating their contract.
The investigation revealed that on the day of the attack, the shopkeeper offered the victim a lift to a local mall. Instead of proceeding to the mall, he diverted the trip towards Lourierpark, allegedly promising to show the victim a place where they normally play golf. It was there that the assailants created an opportunity and attacked the victim with a blunt object.
While recovering in the hospital, the victim was able to provide crucial details to the investigation team, which aided in identifying the suspects.
A case docket of attempted murder was officially opened at the Parkweg Police Station. The two suspects, aged 35 and 36, were subsequently traced and arrested in Chris Hani Square. In a significant breakthrough, the white Nissan NP200 used during the commission of the crime and a golf stick, suspected to be the possible weapon, were recovered in Tuurflaagte.
The two suspects are expected to make their initial appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
