A dog lost its life following an encounter with a Black Mamba on Madrona Drive in Trenance Park – KZN today (Thursday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the property after receiving a call for assistance from the pet owner. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a Black Mamba, approximately two (2) metres in length, which had been killed by members of the public using a garden spade.
According to the homeowner, the highly venomous reptile was first noticed slithering down the driveway towards the backyard. The family dog, a mixed breed, reportedly spotted the snake and instinctively attacked it.
The dog was bitten and became unresponsive after approximately 20 minutes.
