Durban Logistics Workers Accuse Company of Victimisation After Unionising

Workers at Cosmopolitan Hauliers, a logistics company based in Durban, are alleging victimisation and unfair dismissal after joining a trade union last week.

Truck drivers claim they were abruptly fired without warning shortly after affiliating with the Tirisano Transport and Services Workers Union. In response, dismissed employees have set up camp outside the company’s Clairwood depot, demanding answers and reinstatement.

When approached for comment, Cosmopolitan Hauliers refused to engage with the media and reportedly responded with hostility. The workers vow to continue their protest until their grievances are addressed.

Union representatives have condemned the dismissals as an anti-worker tactic and are considering legal action. Labour activists have called for intervention by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
