Walter Sisulu University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Fatally Shot in Brazen Attack

Walter Sisulu University (WSU) has confirmed the tragic killing of its Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Support and Development, Mr. Sinethemba Mpambane, in a fatal shooting outside the Nkulekweni facility last night.

No arrests have been made as police continue investigations into what the university has described as a “brazen act of assassination.”

In an official statement, WSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Rushiella Nolundi Songca mourned Mpambane as an “exceptional leader and hard worker,” adding that his untimely death would leave a profound void in the institution.

Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, Chairperson of the WSU Council, expressed shock at the incident, stating: “The council is deeply shocked and disturbed at what appears to be a brazen act of assassination. We send deep condolences to his family and extended family.”

Ngcukaitobi confirmed that the matter had been escalated to law enforcement, with hopes for swift action. “We are hopeful that authorities will act swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delays,” he said.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving the university community and Mpambane’s colleagues in mourning as they await further updates from police.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
