Drugs, Ammunition, and Cash Seized as SAPS Arrests 41-Year-Old in Athlone Bust

The Western Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety through proactive crime-fighting operations aimed at removing illegal firearms and drugs from communities.

In a targeted operation on Thursday, 19 June 2025, members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) acted on intelligence regarding firearms, drugs, and ammunition stored at a residence in Mohan Road, Gatesville, Athlone. At approximately 11:00, officers conducted a search of the premises, leading to the discovery of:

  • 15 full Mandrax tablets

  • 54 half Mandrax tablets

  • Seven 9mm rounds of ammunition

  • An undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to be proceeds of illegal activities

A 41-year-old man was arrested on charges of possession of drugs and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
