Wanted CIT Suspect Killed in KZN Shootout with Police in Maphumulo

A wanted cash-in-transit (CIT) suspect was shot dead during a gunfight with KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police in Maphumulo earlier today.

The confrontation occurred after an intelligence-driven operation led police to a safehouse in northern KZN, where three men were hiding. During the exchange of gunfire, one police officer was wounded, while another sustained back injuries. Paramedics are currently on the scene and will transport both officers to the hospital for further treatment.

Authorities recovered firearms, stolen vehicles, and explosives at the scene, suggesting the gang may have been preparing for an imminent heist.

Two suspects remain at large, and a manhunt is underway.

The police team, along with security industry partners, had just returned from a week-long operation in Gauteng on Sunday afternoon when they received information about the suspects. The Gauteng operation was part of ongoing investigations into cash-in-transit robberies in the province.

Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
