A 50-year-old Cape Town man arrested in Brackenfell last month will remain in custody after his bail application was postponed today in the Dewetsdorp Magistrate’s Court. The suspect, apprehended by the Free State Provincial Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Unit in May 2025, has been given until 19 June 2025 to appoint legal representation.
The accused faces multiple serious charges, including sexual exploitation, sexual grooming, facilitating the creation of child pornography, recruiting a child for financial or other rewards to produce child pornography, and using a child for the purpose of benefiting from pornography.
The investigation began in February 2025 after a clinical psychologist at a school in Dewetsdorp filed a complaint. According to the allegations, the suspect exploited two boys, aged 15 and 16, by luring them with false promises of gifts in exchange for sexually explicit videos and images.
The case was assigned to Constable Mosiuoa Ntholeng of SECI, who successfully traced and arrested the suspect in Brackenfell on 26 May 2025. The accused first appeared briefly in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court before being transferred to the Dewetsdorp Magistrate’s Court, where he made his initial appearance on 2 June 2025.
During the arrest, law enforcement seized multiple electronic devices. A preliminary forensic analysis has uncovered evidence pointing to the possible involvement of additional victims between the ages of 14 and 16. Authorities have indicated that further charges may be added as the investigation progresses.
The case has been postponed to allow the suspect to secure legal representation, with investigations still ongoing.
