R18 Million Cocaine Bust: Cape Town Cops Nab Suspect with AK-47, Uzi, and 15kg of Drugs

A high-profile intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect for drug dealing and the unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Cape Town on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.

The operation, conducted by members of the Anti-Gang Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Provincial Organised Crime Detectives, targeted a storage facility on Roeland Street following credible intelligence about drugs and firearms being stored at the location.

Upon raiding the self-storage facility, law enforcement officers found the suspect inside one of the units. A subsequent search uncovered 15 bricks of cocaine, weighing approximately 15 kilograms (1kg each), with an estimated street value of R18 million. Additionally, officers seized an AK-47 rifle, an Uzi submachine gun, five 9mm pistols, and a cache of ammunition.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once formally charged with dealing in drugs and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Authorities have hailed the operation as a significant blow to organised crime in the region, emphasizing the importance of intelligence-led policing in combating drug trafficking and illegal firearms.

Further investigations are ongoing.
