A Pakistani spaza shop owner has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, whose mutilated body was found in an open field near her home after she went missing.
The suspect is alleged to have ordered the teenager’s murder, according to authorities. This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Mduduzi Mnisi, a convicted criminal out on parole, who appeared in the Roodeport Magistrate’s Court on murder charges. His case has been postponed to next month.

Tensions in Durban Deep have escalated, with residents looting the Pakistani-owned shop linked to the suspect. Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku confirmed that community tip-offs played a crucial role in cracking the case.
“The community has been very instrumental in assisting us,” Tshwaku said. “Through their information and our investigations, we were able to track down the suspects.”
Disturbing Details Emerge
Likhona, described as an outgoing and friendly teenager, was last seen after being called outside by acquaintances. Authorities believe she was lured to a location where she was killed.
Tshwaku revealed that Mnisi, the first suspect arrested, has a violent criminal history, including previous homicide and robbery charges. The newly arrested Pakistani shop owner’s exact role remains under investigation, but police allege he was involved in orchestrating the murder.

The case has highlighted a surge in gender-based violence (GBV) in Durban Deep. Tshwaku noted that several women have recently been murdered in the area, with some cases linked to illegal mining (zama zama) activities.
“There is a new trend where women are being abducted, taken into abandoned mines, and held for ransom,” Tshwaku warned. Authorities have increased police visibility and undercover operations to combat the rising crime.
