Warrant Issued for Suspect in Murder of Engineer Linked to Transnet Whistleblowing Case

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Lucky Boitumelo Molefe, who is sought by police in connection with the murder of 30-year-old engineer Armard Swart. Swart, an employee at Q Tech Engineering Company in Vereeniging, was fatally shot while seated in his vehicle outside his workplace on 17 April 2024.

According to police reports, two suspects driving a white Hyundai i20 opened fire on Swart, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

An intensive investigation led by the SAPS Head Office Organised Crime team and Crime Intelligence resulted in the arrest of four suspects, including the alleged mastermind behind the killing. Investigators revealed that Swart had blown the whistle on fraud and corruption linked to a Transnet tender contract, and the suspects allegedly orchestrated his assassination to silence him.

Molefe, from Johannesburg, has been in hiding since December 2024, with authorities actively searching for him. The four other accused remain in custody, and their case has been postponed for trial at the Palm Ridge High Court in August 2025.

Police have urged Molefe to surrender himself at the nearest police station as the manhunt continues.
