Multi-Disciplinary Operation Leads to Arrest in Kidnapping, Extortion, and Murder Case

A 43-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a kidnapping, extortion, and murder case following a coordinated operation by the Hawks, Provincial Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and Provincial Organised Crime Unit. The arrest, which took place on 09 June 2025, comes after a harrowing sequence of events that began in Kraaifontein last month.

Kidnapping and Extortion

The case stems from the alleged kidnapping of a victim on 16 May 2025 in Kraaifontein. According to reports, the victim was last seen by a friend while en route to Bellville to inspect a vehicle he intended to purchase. When the victim failed to return, another friend received a call from him, stating that he had been kidnapped and was being assaulted.

The suspects then demanded a ransom of R100,000 for the victim’s release. Subsequent negotiations saw the amount reduced to R10,000, with the suspects providing a bank account for the deposit. It is alleged that R5,000 was paid into the account, but the suspects continued to demand the remaining balance.

Arrests and Discovery of Shallow Grave

On 17 May 2025, investigative teams pursued leads that led them to addresses in Philippi and Kleinvlei, resulting in the arrest of four suspects: Mogamat Samuels (33), Thokozani Kamnjunga (36), Existing Mudivari (33), and Yasseen Jele (30). The accused have already appeared in court.

During the investigation, one of the accused directed authorities to an open field between Monwabisi Beach and Macassar, where a shallow grave was uncovered. The victim had been killed and buried at the location.

City Law Enforcement Vehicle Used in Crime

Further investigations revealed that a City of Cape Town Law Enforcement vehicle, driven by the suspect, was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.

Court Appearances

The newly arrested 43-year-old suspect is set to make his first appearance today (10 June 2025) at the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court. He will later join his co-accused, who are scheduled to appear on 12 June 2025 for a bail application.

Authorities have commended the collaborative efforts of the multi-disciplinary team in ensuring justice for the victim and his family. The case continues to unfold as further details emerge.
