A powerful cold front has swept across the country, bringing freezing temperatures, heavy snowfall, and disruptive weather conditions. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings, urging residents and motorists to exercise caution as the intense system persists.
Widespread Adverse Weather Conditions
According to SAWS forecaster Edward Engelbrecht, the cold front made landfall in the Western Cape yesterday and has since spread eastward, affecting parts of the Eastern Cape and other provinces. The system is expected to intensify into a cut-off low-pressure system, bringing:

While most provinces will experience harsh conditions, Limpopo is expected to remain largely unaffected by the severe weather due to its northern location. “Temperatures will drop, but we don’t anticipate the same level of severe weather as in other regions,” Engelbrecht explained.
Weather Warning System Explained
SAWS has issued yellow and orange-level warnings, indicating minor to significant impacts:
