    Please note: This list includes all incidents that we found in press releases and of SAIRR annual surveys that cannot be classified according to the target categories used in the appendix with the heading “list of known MK operations”. Moreover, we are unsure whether these attacks were carried out by bona fide MK cadres. Some appear to be the result of operational problems; others most likely “flase flag” operations.

    1/11/77 Bomb explodes in Pretoria

    06/08/81 Bomb explodes in East London shopping complex minutes before rush hour; no details

    08/08/81 Bomb explodes in Port Elizabeth shopping centre in a similar manner to East London bomb

    13/05/83 Explosives (37kg explosives in gas cylinder) found by SAP under bridge on Southern Freeway, Durban; defuse

    03/04/84 Car bomb at Victoria Embankment, Durban, kills three civilians, injures 20 civilians Note: According to the SAIRR, two of those killed were Daya Rengasami and his wife Navi. He was a member of the SA Student Organisation and the BPC. The ANC in Lusaka denied a SABC report claiming responsibility; other reports claim that the ANC prepared a statement about the blast which was withheld as soon as it was revealed that the Rengasamis were victims of the bomb. Rajbansi said he believed his offices nearby were the intended target of the bomb. The investigating officer was Capt. Andrew Taylor of the SB who is one of the defendants in the Mxenge trial; he might be able to provide more details.

    10/04/86 Limpet mine at Braamfontein station; 1 person killed, 4 injured

    18/04/86 Bomb explodes in casino of Wild Coast Holiday Inn; 2 civilians killed, 1 injured Note: the ANC has denied responsibility for this attack.

    01/05/86 Two grenades thrown at the home of Mr Klein, principal of Wentworth Primary School. Klein says he’s not politically involved. He was a police reservist some time ago. Klein and woman were both injured.

    07/05/86 Benmore Gardens Shopping Centre, Sandton: bomb causes major damage, no injuries
