The Provincial Flying Squad continues to make inroads against crime and illegal activities through their vigilance and commitment to make society a better place for all.
On Thursday, 6 July 2023, the members performed crime prevention patrols in Schaapkraal area in Grassy Park when they noticed a suspicious person roaming the streets late at night.
They stopped and searched the suspect during which they found a ten antenna signal jammer device in his possession.
These devices are normally used to jam signals when suspects hijack vehicles.
The 45-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Grassy Park SAPS on a charge of possession of an illegal electronic communication device.
The suspect is expected to appear in Wynberg court, once charged.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, in the early hours of Tuesday, 4 July 2023 at 03.00, members of the Flying Squad were busy with crime prevention patrols and performing stop and search operations in Hazendal, Athlone when they noticed a suspicious person standing in 8th Avenue.
The members ensued with a search and found 9mm Norinco pistol without a serial number and eight rounds of ammunition in his possession.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition and was detained at Athlone SAPS holding cells until his first court appearance.
