FC98, Jottie Langenhoven,
Plot 36 of the farm De Stades 485.

Three suspects, one dressed in stonewash jeans, all wearing construction gloves and balaclavas, surprised the home owner and his wife outside their kitchen door while they were smoking sigarettes.

This happened at 21:15.

The victim thinks that they were al Xhosas.

They spoke English but the leader, a short man, spoke fluent Afrikaans.

One was wearing a Kway jacket and another one had a red jacket on.

One’s shoelaces were yellow.

One criminal wore allstar takkies.

They were armed with a .357 magnum/.38 special revolver with a long barrel, a pole fence dropper and a red medium sized bolt cutter.

The attackers demanded access to the safe and forced the victims to open the safe.

On opening the safe, the short man (who appeared to be the leader), said that their informant had given them the wrong location as there was no cash in the safe.

He asked the victim where the man cutting wood who drove a white bakkie was as they believed he had a substancial amount of cash in the safe.

When they realised that they were at the wrong address they stole the following items:

R300 cash,

The victim’s wife and her mother’s wedding rings,

Other jewelry that they placed in a pillow case (no discription).

A new green backpack of one of the children

A big screen TV

A radio hi-fi station and;

The victim’s baby Browning 9mm pistol.

The victims were tied up.

Their cell phones were taken but placed in other rooms in the house.

The Assailants then left after locking the house.

They left the same way they came in on the road leading to Draaifontein road.

The house keys were thrown down about 500m from the house and the TV power cable was lost 200m further down. Both recovered in the road.

No injuries were reported other than extreme trauma to the young children.

Assailants fled on foot and at this stage there is very little evidence to suggest that a vehicle was involved.

Nitrous together with all role players were on scene. ie. Reaction team, drone, Zone Co-ordinators, Navic team and many other FC members all helped.

SAPS uniform, IO’s and SAPS forensics were on the scene.

Too much time had unfortunately had lapsed since the attack and the time victims were able to raise the alarm and the criminals got away.
