Nat QuinnKeymasterIt appears that President Cyril Ramaphosa may visit Russia for talks in June, July and August.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon meet with the leaders of several African countries to discuss their proposals to resolve the war situation in Ukraine. The agreement was reached in Putin’s conversation with President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday, the Kremlin news service said.
During the consultations, the heads of state agreed that they would discuss with Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky the details of a ceasefire agreement and lasting peace in the region.
The peace mission consisting of several African presidents began on June 16 in Kiev in Ukraine and the next day (June 17) in St. Petersburg in Russia.
On 16 May, Ramaphosa announced that the Russian and Ukrainian authorities had agreed to host an African delegation to discuss a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Ramaphosa was speaking on behalf of a group of six African countries: Egypt, the Republic of Congo, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia. Now the current chairman of the African Union, the Comoros, has been added to this list.
The Russia-Africa Summit, as well as an Economic and Humanitarian Forum, will be held in St. Pietersburg between 26 and 29 July. Leaders from African countries were invited to the summit.
Thereafter, the BRICS Summit will take place between 22 and 24 August. However, it is not yet known where the summit will take place, with Dirco previously reporting that it will take place in Johannesburg. Other sources confirmed that China was being considered as a second option, as South Africa is still part of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and political parties have turned to the courts in an attempt to enforce Putin’s warrant of arrest in SA.
BRICS countries include Russia, Brazil, China, India and South Africa.
