Rape and murder, accused handed life sentence, Pietermaritzburg

The Pietermaritzburg High Court has on Wednesday, 12 April 2023 sentenced Thandanani Nzama (30) to life imprisonment and an additional 10 years behind bars after he was convicted for the murder and rape of Phindile Dlamini.

Phindile, who was 27 years old at the time, was last seen on Christmas eve in 2020, and after failing to return home, her family duly reported her missing the following day at Alexandra Road police station.

Three days later her decomposed body was recovered in the veld in France, Alexandra Road. With post-mortem results confirming that she was murdered, shrewd police investigations led to the arrest Nzama.

The accused made several appearances and police successfully opposed his bid for bail until the day of his sentencing.
