Government has withdrawn Eskom’s PFMA exemption. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced through a parliamentary committee that Treasury has “decided to withdraw the government gazette (which exempts Eskom from disclosing irregular, wasteful and fruitless spending) for now”.
Eskom will now, as usual, be required to report irregular expenditure.
This comes after government announced that Eskom would be exempted from the requirements in the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Eskom would have been exempt from reporting irregular expenditure for 3 years.
