A Centurion couple was brutally shot execution-style by a group of armed robbers on their smallholding in Centurion, Gauteng.
BOTH WERE ALSO SHOT IN THE HEAD
The 60-year-old Robert Graham Cilliers and his life partner Ansie van Aardt were in bed when the murderers surprised them and shot them through the window. She said the robbers wanted to break into the couple’s pup on their smallholding.
A gunfight was ensured between Cilliers and the robbers. Celliers and Van Aardt were shot in the head, and Celliers was also shot between the eyes.
According to Dieta-may Kotze, a close friend of Cillies’s, the robbers were armed to the teeth as if they were going to war.

Kotze said the last thing Cilliers and Van Aardt saw was the barrel of a gun between their eyes. She said the Centurion couple was shot execution-style at close range.

By then, their bodies were already riddled with bullets that rained down on them through their bedroom window,’ says Kotze.
According to her, Cilliers wounded one of the groups of six men.
“South Africa is a country at war with itself. The blood and tears that soak the soil of this land continue flowing. Hate, vengeance, and violence define South Africans. Without hate, we feel awkward. Without vengeance, we’re nobody. Without violence, we’re hopeless.”

IT WAS AS IF THE ROBBERS CAME TO WAR
“Robert and Ansie were not famous rap artists or struggle heroes. They owned and managed a pub and tried to survive in a country besieged by poverty, inequality, violence, crime, corruption, greed, incompetence, mismanagement, gluttonous politicians, and hatred,” says Kotze.
“My hopes were dashed by the unthinkable. Farewell Rob! May your restless soul find peace.“You did go out in a blaze of glory, just like you always said you would. Condolences to all my family and to Ansie’s relatives. May we all find peace and understanding.”
