Four Arrested in Connection with Stock Theft

The SAPS Fezile Dabi District Infrastructure Task Team has arrested four suspects aged between 43 and 49 for alleged stock theft near Viljoenskroon.

On Thursday, 9 April 2026, at approximately 20:00, members of the Kroonstad Infrastructure Team received information about individuals reportedly planning to steal sheep from a farm along Vredefort Road. The information was followed up, and a waylay operation was conducted.

On Friday, 10 April 2026, at around 05:30, officers observed a suspicious bakkie traveling on the R76 near Viljoenskroon without registration numbers. The vehicle was stopped near a plot, where the four male suspects were found in possession of twelve sheep carcasses.

Further investigation led officers to the farm where the sheep had been stolen. An additional four sheep carcasses were recovered at the scene.

The suspects were arrested and detained. The vehicle used in the crime was seized as part of the investigation.

The four suspects are expected to appear soon in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court on charges of stock theft.
