Suspect to Appear in Court for Unlicensed AK-47 Found After Crash

A 35-year-old male suspect is scheduled to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, after being arrested for possession of an unlicensed fully automatic firearm.

The arrest took place on Sunday, 5 April 2026, at approximately 23:00 along the N1 North outside Mokopane. A traffic officer on duty arrested the suspect after responding to a motor vehicle accident scene, where a white BMW driven by the suspect had collided into the rear of a trailer being pulled by a Toyota Hilux.

During the response, the suspect requested to retrieve his medication from the boot of his vehicle. Officers accompanied him, and upon inspection, they discovered an AK-47 rifle with no ammunition and an obliterated serial number inside the boot.

The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police investigations are ongoing.
