Three Suspected Hijacked Vehicles Recovered in Tonga, Mpumalanga

A coordinated operation by the SAPS Anti-Hijacking Task Team, Tonga Visible Policing (Vispol), and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has led to the recovery of three suspected hijacked vehicles in the Tonga policing area.

Acting on intelligence about a suspicious white Mahindra vehicle traveling along Mananga Road, law enforcement members proceeded to the identified area. Upon arrival, they observed the vehicle entering a sugarcane farm along Mananga Road.

With SANDF support, officers initiated a pursuit. During the operation, it was determined that three vehicles were involved: a Mahindra, a Ford Ranger, and a Toyota Fortuner.

As officers closed in, the suspects abandoned all three vehicles and fled on foot into nearby bushes. A search for the suspects is ongoing.

All recovered vehicles have been transported to the Tonga SAPS station for further investigation and processing.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicles were reported stolen in March 2026 at the following police stations: Katlehong North, Honeydew, and Rustenburg.

The South African Police Service has commended the swift and coordinated response of all units involved. Investigations continue, and efforts to apprehend the suspects remain underway.
