Unlicensed Firearm with Filed-Off Serial Number Seized

A routine patrol by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) led to the arrest of a 35-year-old foreign national and the seizure of a prohibited firearm in the Navalsig area on Monday afternoon.

According to police reports, members were conducting routine duties in the vicinity of Lombard Street at approximately 16:00 when their attention was drawn to a white Nissan bakkie parked at a local workshop. The vehicle matched the description of a car believed to be used for drug distribution in that specific sector.

Upon approaching the premises, officers identified the owner of the vehicle. When police requested permission to conduct a search, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was swiftly apprehended by the vigilant members.

A thorough search of the vehicle’s cabin yielded a brown firearm with its serial number filed off. The suspect was unable to produce a valid license for the weapon.

The man was immediately placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is currently in police custody and is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
