The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has endorsed the arrest of a 29-year-old police constable facing charges of murder and housebreaking.
Constable Kutlwano Joy Tshepe was taken into custody on the evening of Thursday, 26 February 2026, in Phokeng.
According to allegations, Tshepe broke into the residence of his ex-girlfriend in the Roma Section during the early morning hours of the same day. While the woman was hiding inside the home, the constable reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim managed to escape through an open window and fled to a relative’s house nearby.
It is further alleged that Tshepe subsequently went to the home of his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend, a 33-year-old man. Upon arrival, the constable allegedly assaulted the man. Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel responded to the scene but declared the victim deceased. He had sustained multiple injuries, including a severe head wound.
The accused appeared in the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 01 March 2026. The case was postponed, and Tshepe was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to the same court on Monday, 09 March 2026, for a formal bail application.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has taken over the investigation.
