Police have arrested a 61-year-old man for the alleged rape of a seven-year-old minor in Chaneng Village, Robega Section, near Sun City.
Patrick Zondwayo, who was a tenant at the victim’s residence, was taken into custody on Thursday, 24 November 2022, just four days after the incident was reported to police on Sunday, 20 November 2022.
According to the charge sheet, the offences were committed on Wednesday, 16 November 2022. Evidence gathered during the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the child and recorded video footage of the abuse.
Following the report, the victim underwent a medical examination, which corroborated the allegations. An extensive investigation was launched by the Bafokeng police, during which investigators traced Zondwayo’s movements and secured evidence linking him to the crimes.
Detective Constable Dikeke Mokebe is handling the investigation. The accused is facing three counts of rape and remains in custody.
Zondwayo is scheduled to appear in the Bafokeng Regional Court soon.
