A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a woman in Extension 10, Kanana, following an incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 30 March 2024.
According to police reports, Itumeleng Johannes Lekgetho accompanied the victim from a local tavern to her residence at approximately 03:00 after she requested assistance to get home. The following day, the victim’s nine-year-old daughter reported to adults that she had witnessed the accused raping her mother while she was unconscious.
The matter was immediately reported to the police, and the victim was taken for a medical examination, which confirmed the child’s account. North West police launched an investigation, during which forensic evidence, including DNA samples, was collected at the scene.
Lekgetho was subsequently arrested following a thorough probe by the investigating team. Forensic analysis later confirmed that the DNA results linked the accused to the crime.
Detective Sergeant Samuel Mpho Mapane is leading the investigation. The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.
