Police Arrest Man for Possession of Stolen Vehicle

A 63-year-old man was arrested in Ngqeleni on Wednesday for the unlawful possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed.

The arrest took place at approximately 11:55 on 25 February 2026. Members of the Ngqeleni SAPS were conducting routine patrols in the Central Business District (CBD) when they identified a Toyota Hilux GD6 bakkie that raised their suspicion. Officers stopped the vehicle to perform further verification checks.

According to a preliminary investigation, a circulation check revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in March 2025. The theft case was registered at the Tloekeng (former Mt Fletcher) police station. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

During questioning, the man alleged that he had given money to his nephew to purchase the vehicle on his behalf, claiming this was how he came into possession of the bakkie.

The suspect, a resident of Mngamnye No. 1 locality in the Ndungunyeni Administrative Area, is expected to appear before the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court soon. He faces a charge of unlawful possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
