
A 34-year-old male suspect was arrested on Thursday, 26 February 2026, following the discovery of illicit drugs during a joint law enforcement operation on the N14 highway.
The arrest occurred at approximately 09:00 at a joint inter-provincial roadblock positioned on the N14 between Siyathemba and Kathu. The operation was conducted by members of the Kathu, Siyathemba, and Olifantshoek South African Police Service (SAPS), in collaboration with Northern Cape Provincial Traffic and other safety participants.
According to authorities, the suspect was a passenger in a taxi traveling from Johannesburg to Namibia when the vehicle was stopped at the checkpoint. A thorough search of the suspect’s luggage led to the discovery of various illegal substances.
Police confiscated Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R28,500, crystal meth (Tik) valued at approximately R75,000, and cannabis (dagga) with an estimated street value of R24,000. The combined value of the seized narcotics totals R127,500.
The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and is expected to face charges related to the possession and transportation of illegal drugs.
