tepfather Gets Life Imprisonment for 13 Years of Raping Teenager

The District Commissioner for the Pixley Ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, has welcomed the life sentence handed down to a 39-year-old man for the repeated rape of his stepdaughter over a period of 13 years.

The Prieska Regional Court heard that the investigation began in July 2020 after a concerned community member alerted the police to a possible sexual assault involving the victim, who was 16 years old at the time. Preliminary investigations confirmed the abuse, leading to the suspect’s arrest and formal charging.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Riaan Van Wyk of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Prieska. Further investigation revealed that the accused had been sexually abusing the victim since she was approximately three years old. It was also established in court that the victim had fallen pregnant on several occasions as a result of the prolonged abuse.

Following multiple court appearances, the accused was found guilty on several counts of rape. On Tuesday, 24 February 2026, he was sentenced to an effective life term of imprisonment.

In addition to the life sentence, the court ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
