
Police in Mankweng have arrested a 36-year-old man following an intelligence-driven operation targeting the illegal sale of contraband in the Ga-Kgole village area.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, at a local tavern in the Tshware area. According to police, members acted on a tip-off regarding the alleged sale of illicit cigarettes and other prohibited items on the premises.
During a search of the tavern, law enforcement officials confiscated a quantity of narcotics, illicit tobacco products, and alcohol. The seized items include 20 sachets and one small plastic bag of dagga, with an estimated weight of 0.118 kg, as well as 25 cartons and five loose packs of Remington Gold cigarettes believed to be illicit. Various bottles of alcohol suspected to be sold without a license were also found.
The total estimated street value of the confiscated goods is approximately R10,000.
The suspect, believed to be the owner of the tavern, was arrested at the scene. He is facing charges related to dealing in illicit cigarettes, dealing in dagga, and the illegal sale of alcohol. A corresponding case has been opened for further investigation.
