Police have welcomed the hefty prison sentence handed to a 33-year-old man for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old initiate at a traditional initiation school in Malebogo.
The Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit conducted the investigation that led to the conviction of Lenyatso Kase.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on Saturday, 21 December 2023, at approximately 23:00. At the time, the 17-year-old victim was attending a gathering at the initiation school. Kase, who was serving as an assistant to the teachers at the school, forced his way into the victim’s blankets and sexually assaulted him.
After the assault, Kase threatened the teenager, warning him that if he spoke out, he would instruct others to “sort him out.”
The victim remained silent about the ordeal until after the initiation period had concluded. Encouraged by a friend, he eventually reported the matter to the police. The case was assigned to Sergeant Lydia Selemogo of the Bultfontein FCS Unit.
Working in close collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), specifically Prosecutor Mr. Masisi, the investigation team presented a strong case in court. Lenyatso Kase was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
