The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned a viral video showing individuals firing shots at a funeral and has ordered a special team to track down the perpetrators.
According to a police statement, the video circulating on social media depicts individuals randomly discharging firearms during a burial service. Lieutenant General Hadebe expressed serious concern over the incident and has directed the Provincial Tracking Team to apprehend those responsible for contravening the Firearms Control Act.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 21 February 2026, at approximately 10:30. Reports indicate the scene unfolded at a graveyard in Kliphavul village, which falls under the Elandskraal policing area in the Sekhukhune District.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the mourners were attending the funeral of a colleague who was involved in the towing industry. It is alleged that during the burial proceedings at the cemetery, a group of suspects began discharging their firearms.
A case of negligent handling of a firearm and ammunition has been opened. Police have confirmed that members of the Provincial Tracking Team are actively working to identify the individuals involved in the video. The objective of the investigation is to ensure the suspects face the full might of the law and to seize the firearms used during the incident.
