Hawks Re-arrest R2 Million Airport Drug Mule After Bail Breach

The Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) has re-arrested a man who allegedly attempted to smuggle cocaine worth over R2 million through Cape Town International Airport.

Jacques Schoeman (36) was taken back into custody on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court.

Schoeman was initially arrested by the Hawks in October 2025. According to authorities, SANEB members received intelligence regarding a South African citizen allegedly acting as a drug mule on a flight arriving from Doha. The information was operationalized, leading to a search of the suspect upon his arrival at the airport. During the search, officers discovered cocaine with an estimated street value of over R2 million concealed in his luggage.

He made his first appearance in the Bellville Magistrates Court on 10 October 2025. On 16 October 2025, he was granted bail in the amount of R20,000. The case was subsequently postponed to 20 January 2026, a date for which he failed to appear in court, prompting the warrant for his arrest.

Schoeman is scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
