Three suspects are scheduled to appear in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court today following the discovery of multiple firearms and ammunition during a traffic stop on Tuesday.
According to police reports, members were conducting routine crime prevention patrols when they observed a silver Suzuki motor vehicle displaying no license plates. While officers monitored the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic light, prompting authorities to pull the vehicle over.
Upon the driver exiting the vehicle, officers observed a 9mm pistol lying on the driver’s seat. During the interaction, a passenger was seen attempting to conceal an object beneath a seat. Police subsequently ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle and requested backup units to respond to the scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three firearms in total, accompanied by ammunition. Additionally, officers located a set of license plates and balaclavas inside the vehicle.
While the driver was able to produce a valid license for one of the weapons, the remaining two firearms were determined to be unlicensed.
The occupants, aged 25, 45, and 46, were arrested on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They are expected to make their first appearance in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court today.
