The Gqeberha High Court sentenced a 57-year-old man to life imprisonment on Monday, 16 February 2026, for the kidnapping and rape of a 10-year-old child that occurred in the Seaview area in September 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused approached the young victim while she was walking to her aunt’s home. He then lured her to his shack, where he committed the sexual assault.
The suspect was arrested in October 2024 following a joint effort between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and community members. He remained in custody throughout the duration of his trial.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata, welcomed the sentencing.
In his remarks, Maj Gen Ncata commended the investigating officer from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit for her dedication to the case. He reiterated the SAPS’s commitment to protecting children, stating that the police service will continue to ensure that perpetrators of crimes against minors face the full might of the law.
