Three in Custody, One Sought in Killing of E-Hailing Driver in Pretoria

Police have apprehended two more suspects in connection with the murder of an e-hailing driver, bringing the total number of people in custody to three, with authorities confirming they are on the lookout for a fourth individual.

The two male suspects, aged 30 and 26, were arrested on Sunday, February 15. They are set to join a 25-year-old suspect who was taken into custody on Friday, February 13. All three are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 16, facing charges of car hijacking and murder.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Pretoria West area. According to police reports, the victim, identified as a Nigerian national, was allegedly killed during the hijacking.

A police spokesperson confirmed the latest arrests, stating that the investigation is ongoing. The arrests follow the circulation of harrowing dashcam footage from the victim’s vehicle, which reportedly captured the incident and played a crucial role in identifying the perpetrators. It is understood that a female suspect was among those initially detained on Friday.

The tragedy has deeply affected the local e-hailing community. Colleagues of the deceased driver are expected to gather outside the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday to voice their frustrations over the incident. Reports indicate that members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) are also planning to demonstrate outside the court.

The victim, who was reportedly scheduled to graduate next month and had plans to further his studies in Canada, had his dreams “cut short” by the alleged assailants, according to those close to the investigation.

While three suspects are now in custody, police have confirmed that they are still searching for a fourth individual linked to the crime. The investigation remains active.
