A patrol by the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit in New Horizon led to the arrest of a suspect for firearm and drug possession on Saturday morning.
While on crime prevention duties in Lyrebird Street, officers noticed a man running into the yard of a residence. The members pursued the suspect and detained him for a search.
Upon searching the individual and a black bag in his possession, officers discovered a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition. The search also yielded an undisclosed quantity of cocaine and 100 mandrax tablets.
The suspect was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs. He is scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
