Teacher Apprehended for Fatal Shooting of Partner

A 56-year-old man, who is a teacher by profession, has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that left a woman dead and her daughter injured in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police responded to a report of a shooting incident at approximately 02:10 on 14 February 2026. Upon arriving at the scene in Elukwatini, officers found a 22-year-old woman in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to her foot.

The victim told police that she had been shot by her mother’s male friend. She further informed them that her mother had also been shot inside the residence.

Officers entered the house and discovered a 45-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene and certified the woman deceased.

The injured daughter was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect, identified as the deceased’s male friend, was found inside the house at the time of the police response and was taken into custody without incident. He has since been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Law enforcement officials confiscated the firearm believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.

The 56-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
