An intelligence-driven operation by South African police has resulted in the arrest of five suspects in connection with an alleged armed robbery that took place in Rammolutsi earlier this month.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 41, were apprehended on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Friday, 6 February 2026, at Vaalrock Section, Rammolutsi. It is alleged that two unknown males entered the victim’s yard while she was on her phone. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. They pointed the weapon at the victim and stole her cellphone.
Following the robbery, the suspects allegedly accessed a school banking application on the stolen device and transferred an undisclosed amount of money. The cellphone was later discarded on a gravel road leading to a farm in Viljoenskroon.
On Thursday, 12 February 2026, authorities detected that the SIM card from the stolen phone had been reactivated in a different cellular device. This intelligence led law enforcement to the five suspects, resulting in their arrest. The vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
The five individuals are scheduled to appear before the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery with a firearm.
