
Police in Limpopo have arrested a 56-year-old man for the possession of illicit cigarettes following a vehicle interception on Wednesday evening.
According to a police report, members acted on intelligence received at approximately 20:30 on 11 February 2026, regarding a vehicle allegedly transporting illicit cigarettes from Musina to Gauteng.
The operational team intercepted the identified white Ford Ranger single cab along the R516 road in the Tuinplaas policing area. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 36 master boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes concealed inside.
The illicit cigarettes have an estimated street value of R360,000. The male driver was arrested at the scene.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the members for their swift response and ongoing efforts to combat illicit trade in the province.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 13 February 2026.
