
Police have arrested two men for the murder of a store manager and a business robbery at a Jeffreys Bay grocery store on February 1, 2026.
The suspects, aged 23 and 26, were apprehended on the evening of Monday, February 9, 2026. Acting on intelligence, a task team from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit intercepted a white Toyota Quantum taxi on the N2 highway between Gqeberha and Makhanda. The vehicle was pulled over near Nanaga at approximately 21:00.
One of the men was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol. Both were arrested and charged with murder and business robbery. The suspect found with the firearm faces an additional charge of contravention of the Firearms Control Act.
According to police, the arrests are linked to a robbery that occurred on the morning of Sunday, February 1, 2026, at approximately 09:20. Suspects stormed into a grocery store on Jacob Zuma Street in the Tokyo Sexwale area of Jeffreys Bay. They held the security guard at gunpoint before one of them allegedly fatally shot the store manager. The pair then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and several cellphones before fleeing the scene on foot.
The two accused are scheduled to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
