An operation targeting gang violence in the Muizenberg policing precinct resulted in the arrest of a suspect on Monday for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Members of the Muizenberg Crime Prevention Unit were conducting stop-and-search operations in Seawind when they approached a group of males standing at the corner of Mossie and Penguin Streets.
During the search, one male was found in possession of a .38 Special revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition. When questioned, the suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence.
The 18-year-old suspect was arrested on the charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Muizenberg today.
